Estimating software for construction: what the vendors say themselves.

An overview of four packages, built from vendor pages and industry directories. It is not a ranking and not a recommendation. Every claim carries its source and the date we read it.

  1. 01This is not a ranking and not a best software list. We do not judge the packages.
  2. 02As far as we could find, there are no independent comparative reviews of these packages. Most lines below are what a vendor or an industry directory writes about the product, sometimes repeating the vendor. The only independent opinion we found is a Capterra listing for Ibis with two reviews.
  3. 03Only Ibis states prices on the page we read. Kraan, 4PS and Syntess state none there. Prices can change and the VAT basis is not stated.
  4. 04Ibis and Syntess share an owner: Aceve. Syntess reports that it joined Aceve on 3 December 2025, and the Ibis page carries the Aceve Nederland name in its footer.

Syntess

  • Syntess (own news item): describes itself, and reports joining Aceve

    Calls itself the Dutch market leader in ERP and field service software for installation, service and maintenance firms, with 6,500 businesses and 55,000 users; joined Aceve on 3 December 2025

Directories and industry bodies

Lists of packages, not reviews. They often repeat what the vendor says.

  • Bouwkostenplein (directory): lists Kraan Calculatie and Ibis (IBIS TRAD, IBIS4BIM)

    Says IBIS TRAD has been used for over 30 years and repeats Kraan's own claim of 80 percent of a budget in 20 percent of the time; no prices, Syntess and 4PS not covered

Where Modou fits

Modou is not an estimating package.

Modou is not an estimating package. It reads the documents of a tender package (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, IFC2x3, IFC4, DXF) and hands the estimator quantities traced to their source. It exports to Excel and CSV, plus a CUF XML export for Ibis, Kraan nCalc and Vakware that is a pilot and still in development. Modou does not measure on 2D line drawings, does not read DWG or Revit files and does not calculate MPG, MKI or BREEAM.
