Questions about IFC files
What is an IFC file?
IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) is an open file format for 3D building models. Modelling software such as Revit, ArchiCAD or Allplan can export to it, so people who use different programs can share one model.
Which IFC versions does Modou read?
IFC2x3 and IFC4. Other versions, such as IFC4x3, are not read yet. The checker above tells you which version your file has.
Can Modou read a Revit or DWG file?
No. Modou does not read DWG or Revit files. Export the model as IFC from your modelling software and use that file.
Does Modou measure 2D drawings?
No. Modou does not measure lengths or areas on 2D line drawings. It reads the geometry of a 3D model in IFC, and the text and tables in PDF, DOCX, XLSX and CSV files.
Is my file uploaded when I use the checker?
No. The checker runs in your browser and reads the file on your computer. Nothing is sent to Modou or anyone else. Uploading a file to Modou only happens when you choose to start a project.
Why does the checker count elements and not measure them?
Counting is quick and shows whether the file has what you expect. Measuring areas properly needs the full geometry, which is what Modou does when you open the file there.
